After an epic European week here at the HYLO Open 2025 we have finally reached the final day, and there is no better moment to be a European badminton fan.
Men’s singles:
The biggest dark horse story of the week is without a doubt Magnus Johannesen. The men’s singles world number 73 came all the way from qualification and now stands in his very first Super 500 final. Standing opposite him is Jonathan Christie, who is in incredible form after winning both the Denmark Open and Korea Open, beating Shi Yu Qi and Anders Antonsen on the way. If Johannesen can pull off this upset, it will be one of the greatest modern shocks in badminton. That is absolutely one to watch tomorrow.
Women’s doubles:
In women’s doubles we have a first Super 500 final for the French pair Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante. They face Yin Hui Hsu/Jhih Yun Lin from Chinese Taipei, the second seeds of the tournament. Having already beaten the top seeded Stoeva sisters earlier this week, this challenge will not be impossible.
Mixed doubles:
In mixed doubles it is an all-European final: Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje versus Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue. It is actually a repeat of the European Championships 2024 final, also here in Saarbrucken, where the French won the gold. But last week it was the Danes who won their most recent encounter. Will it be the European Championships finals all over again, or will Denmark strike back? The French made it very clear they want revenge — watch them talk about it in our video below.
Women’s singles:
In women’s singles it is first seed versus second seed. Mia Blichfeldt defeated her former teammate Line Christophersen in a tense and emotional semifinal, where Blichfeldt came out on top. The Dane now takes on Indonesia’s Putri Wardani for the HYLO Open 2025 title. Blichfeldt spoke to us after the match — watch her interview below.
