A remarkable international career has just come to an end, Sara Thygesen is no longer an international top-level player.
Her career has seen both highs and lows, but what has defined her most is a decade-long consistency and presence at the top level.
With 2 World Tour titles and an additional 3 finals, 8 gold medals for Denmark at the European Women’s and Mixed Team Championships, a silver medal at the individual European Championships with partner Niclas Nøhr, and 4 bronze medals alongside her longtime partner Maiken Fruergaard, Sara has built an admirable legacy.
Today, she added one final bronze medal to her collection, this time with Dutch partner Debora Jille, after losing 21-14, 21-9 to the four-time champions Stefani and Gabriela Stoeva.
Sara’s longtime partner, Maiken Fruergaard, is also retiring from international badminton after this tournament. Later today, she will play her semifinal alongside Natasja P. Anthonisen.
We extend a heartfelt thank you to Sara Thygesen for all her efforts throughout the years and wish her all the very best in life after badminton.
