Neither France nor Czechia managed to win an individual match today in their second round games loosing 5-0 against Malaysia and Chinese Taipei, respectively.
The French team, which started without most of their big stars, faced Malaysia in a match where Arnaud Merkle played a really impressive game against the world number 26 Leong Jun Hao but ultimately lost 22-20, 21-19, after having led for large parts of both sets. In the other matches, the young French players gained valuable match experience against world-class competitors, although they were never really close to securing a victory.
Czechia opened their clash against Chinese Taipei with mixed doubles, where Ondřej Král/Tereza Švábíková put up a strong fight but lost to Ye Hong Wei/Hu Ling Fang, with a particularly close second game, 19-21 23-25. Jan Louda showed improvement in his second game against Lin Chun-Yi, but it wasn’t enough to turn the match around. Despite some good efforts from the team, Czechia couldn't prevent Chinese Taipei from securing a 5-0 win.
