Anders Antonsen is through to the semifinals at the VICTOR China Open 2025, while for the Popov brothers, the journey ends in the quarterfinals.

Christo Popov fell to Wang Zheng Xing, while the other two Europeans playing today, Toma Junior Popov and Anders Antonsen, battled each other for a spot in the final four.

It started off close, with Toma Junior Popov winning the opening game, 21-19. “It wasn’t easy. I was struggling a little bit in there today. I didn’t play very well, and nothing really felt comfortable for me,” Antonsen said about his overall performance. He bounced back in the second game, winning 21-12. “I think the change of sides changed the momentum a little bit,” he added.

He mentioned the tricky conditions on that particular court, having played all his matches there this week. Still, the shift in momentum worked in his favour, as he went on to take the decider 21-8. “Now I feel like I’ve conquered that court.”

While the Dane had mixed feelings about his game and the conditions, he has now secured a podium finish at a Super 1000, his fourth of the year, a strong result after last week’s early exit in Tokyo. “I’m just happy to be through. It wasn’t the prettiest match, but a win is a win.”

Wang Zheng Xing awaits in the semifinals, having secured his spot by defeating Christo Popov, 21-6 22-20. The second game was very close, with Popov looking like he could force a decider when he reached 20-17. But Wang closed it out with five straight points to get the win.
