At just 20 years and 77 days old, Alex Lanier has become the youngest player to win the European Championships in men's singles. He breaks the record previously held by Peter Gade, who won the title in 1998 at the age of 21 years and 132 days.

In the final, Lanier faced his fellow countryman Toma Junior Popov and came out on top with a 21/17 21/18 victory for the young Frenchman.

After the match, we spoke with a tired but very happy Alex Lanier.
"I am tired now, and also proud... I am proud of the work we have done (Alex and his team) and I think this title didn't came from nowhere, I knew I had the weapons to wins this title and I think I did well until the end

Toma Junior Popov will have another shot at gold later today when he joins his younger brother Christo in the men's doubles final against fellow Frenchmen Eloi Adam and Leo Rossi. It is the first time since 1984 that a player reaches both the men's singles and men's doubles final at a European Championships. You can read more about who achieved this back then here
