Alexander Dunn/Julie Macpherson have given the audience one of the standout results of the day at the YONEX German Open 2026, defeating second seeds Guo Xin Wa/Chen Fang Hui in straight games to advance to the quarterfinals.

The Scots won 21-9 21-17 against the world number six pair, a great turnaround after losing to the same opponents in straight games at the Malaysia Open just last month. It was their third meeting with Guo/Chen, and their first win.

“Our tactics and our focus were really on point today and we managed to get an early start, which I think is key. We've been looking over a few of our matches and we normally seem to drop those first 11 points and then it's like an uphill battle. So I think we set the tone from the start, managed to get the first set and then they brought it back a little bit, but we held our nerve,” Dunn said.

After taking the opening game confidently, the Chinese pair responded in the second, but Dunn/Macpherson stayed calm to close it 21-17.

“We looked like we were calm. I think we kind of backed ourselves towards the end, we knew we'd been playing well the full match, so we just wanted to keep going like that and thankfully we did,” Macpherson said.

This will be their first Super 300 quarterfinal since the HYLO Open 2024, where they went on to win silver.
