The reigning men’s singles champion, Anders Antonsen, is unfortunately too ill to compete for a chance to reclaim his title.
He was the top seed and a strong favourite to win again, especially after Viktor Axelsen was forced to withdraw last week following back surgery.

Anders Antonsen was set to begin his campaign later today against Ukraine’s Titov, but has been forced to withdraw due to severe stomach issues.
Badminton Denmark’s Elite and Sports Director, Jens Meibom stated:

“Anders has been feeling really unwell over the past three days. He has been examined by both Team Denmark’s doctor and at Skejby Hospital, who fortunately have not found anything serious, but who have confirmed that Anders is in pain and suffering from nausea. It is of course very unfortunate, mainly for Anders, but also for Denmark’s medal hopes,”

It is also a disappointed Anders Antonsen that Badminton Denmark has spoken to.

“It is with great regret that I have to withdraw,” says Anders Antonsen. “I have been sick since Sunday and unfortunately haven’t been able to recover yet. I was really looking forward to playing at home in front of the Danish crowd. I know that Badminton Denmark and the organisers have put a lot of effort into creating the best possible event for players and fans, and that’s why this withdrawal hurts even more.”

We wish Anders a speedy recovery.
