Just like earlier in today’s quarterfinals at the KAPAL API Indonesia Open 2025, where out of the two European mixed doubles pairs, only Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue advanced, it was a similar story in men’s singles – Anders Antonsen moved on, while Alex Lanier’s run came to an end.

It was the fourth meeting this year between Alex Lanier and the newly crowned world number one, Kunlavut Vitidsarn – all of their encounters happening in 2025. Lanier had the lead in their head-to-head before today, but this time, it was the Thai player who came out on top, winning in straight games, 21-12 21-16. Vitidsarn, who has already claimed two titles during this Asian leg of the tour, now secures his third podium finish and will face Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in the semifinals.

The winner of that match will go on to face either top seed Shi Yu Qi or Anders Antonsen in Sunday’s final. Antonsen faced Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu today, who pushed hard from the very first rally. The Dane narrowly won the first game 23-21 and then comfortably won the second, 21-9. Tomorrow, he’ll face one of the toughest challenges in the draw – this is a Super 1000, after all.
