With the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025 less than three weeks away, Viktor Axelsen has just announced that he will not be competing in Paris.
The Danish player shared the news today via his Instagram story, explaining that the decision was made after discussions with his medical team.
“After careful consultation with my medical team, I’ve been advised to dedicate more time to my rehabilitation. As a result, I unfortunately won’t be able to get tournament-ready in time to compete safely at the upcoming World Championships.
While it’s tough to miss such a big event, I’m not discouraged. On the contrary, I’m highly motivated to keep pushing forward with my rehab and set myself a new goal to come back stronger.
Thanks as always for your continued support.”
Axelsen, a two-time World Champion – in Glasgow 2017 and Tokyo 2022 – and also a bronze medallist at the event, was set to make his comeback in Paris later this month after undergoing endoscopic surgery in April to repair a disc herniation.
Nevertheless, the Dane remains focused on his recovery and long-term goals.
The TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025 will take place from Monday 25th to Sunday 31st August in Paris, France.
