Germany and France were the title-winners at the first-ever BWF AirBadminton European Championships, held in Azerbaijan.
The inaugural edition of the BWF AirBadminton European Continental Championships 2025 was hosted in Baku, Azerbaijan, marking a milestone for the sport and bringing together national teams from nine countries.
The event took place last week, from the 5th to 7th of September at the European Games Park in Baku, with nine participating national teams: Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, and Türkiye, who competed in three different categories – Team, Men’s Triples, and Women’s Triples.
In the Team event, Germany were the champions, securing the title with a 60-49 win against hosts Azerbaijan in the final. The hosts had a strong team on home soil, with some top names like Keisha Fatimah Azzahra and Ade Resky Dwicahyo, helping their country to a hard-fought silver medal. Bulgaria won the bronze after a third-place match against the Netherlands, winning 60-54.

France was very successful, winning the title in men’s and women’s triples, with names such as Sharon Bauer leading the way in their teams. In the women’s triples, the Netherlands won silver while Germany, with Linda Efler and Julia Meyer among the players, completed the podium in the third place. In the men’s triples, Germany again won silver, and Türkiye claimed the bronze.
And with this, the national teams of Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, and Germany have qualified for the BWF AirBadminton World Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates, taking place from 11 to 14 December.
A spectacular closing ceremony with a fire show brought the event to close. Medals were presented by Badminton Europe President Sven Serré and Azerbaijan Badminton Federation President Taleh Ziyadov.

Beyond the competition, the event also held space for community and development – athletes took part in workshops with local children.
