Ben Lane and Sean Vendy succeeded in capturing their first tournament victory of the year, which is another career high for them, winning their first Super 500 tournament at the Arctic Open 2025.

Another year, another improvement for Ben Lane and Sean Vendy. The English duo had struggled this year in finding the same success as last year. Having won two Super 300 competitions last year — the YONEX Swiss Open 2024 and the HYLO Open 2024 — 2024 had been a good year for them, securing their first World Tour tournament victories. However, the closest in 2025 for the duo was a third place at the German Open earlier in the year.

Then they were affected by an ankle injury from Ben Lane, forcing them to pull out of the Asian tour, meaning they only played one match between the European Championships in early April and the World Championships in late August.

With the lack of positive results and the injury plaguing them, it means they’ve fallen from their peak World Ranking at the 9th spot to their current ranking at 15th place.

Facing Chia/Soh in the final at the CLASH OF CLANS Arctic Open 2025 powered by YONEX , the number two pair in the world was going to be no easy task.

“We’ve played them plenty of times throughout our careers, especially after the last three weeks. We knew it was going to be a tough match. Super happy to come out on top, this is our first Super 500 win, so we’re obviously very happy for that, and hopefully we can continue the momentum into the next week,” Lane said following the win.

Vendy continued, “On the whole tour we’re probably one of the most together pairs, we never give each other a hard time and always have each other’s back no matter what, so I think that’s a big credit to us. It helps us out there. We can calm each other down.”
Their togetherness and calm attitude continue to be one of their biggest strengths on court.

Lane added, “It’s our biggest tournament we’ve won of our career. We’re confident going into next week. We need to take a bit of time to recover before we play on Wednesday. We’re looking forward to celebrating a win because it doesn’t come around every week and then we’ll get ready for next week.”

Next week:
Badminton Europe will be covering the VICTOR Denmark Open 2025 throughout the week. With the best players from around the world competing at the prestigous event.
