Yesterday Ben Lane/Sean Vendy lost in the first round at the KFF Singapore Open 2025, Ben Lane today revealed on his Instagram story that he and Sean Vendy will not be participating in the highly anticipated KAPAL API Indonesia Open 2025 Super 1000 tournament next week.
“We’ve flown home from Asia because I’m getting surgery on an ankle injury that has been troubling me since the start of this year,” Lane wrote.
Looking back at the pair’s results, it sheds some light on their recent performances. 2024 was a strong season for the English duo, they won the HYLO Open 2024, the Swiss Open 2024, and reached the final at the Canada Open 2024. However, they have struggled to hit the same heights in 2025, with a semifinal finish at the YONEX German Open 2025 being their best result so far.
“The surgery is on the right ankle [...] it’s to remove some extra bone at the back of it. [...] I’ve been on painkillers for the last two months, it hasn’t helped, which is why I need surgery to remove it,” Lane told Badminton Europe in a statement following his initial Instagram update.
The pair aims to return in time for the TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2025, which take place from 25th to 31st August.
Badminton Europe wishes Ben the best in his recovery.
