Ben Lane and Sean Vendy are the new European champions.
It has been a fantastic week for English men’s doubles, as they leave the 2026 European Championships with both a bronze medal for Zach Russ and Alex Green, and now a gold medal for Ben Lane & Sean Vendy.
In today’s final, Lane and Vendy faced the defending European champions, Christo and Toma Junior Popov. It was the English pair’s first-ever European Championships final, having previously won bronze medals in 2022 and 2024.
Lane and Vendy have delivered an outstanding tournament, not dropping a single game on their way to the final. In today’s match, they continued their impressive run, defeating the Popov brothers 21–15, 21–16.
Vendy said:
"We obviously came into this tournament with one goal in mind, which was the gold medal. I feel like we have played at a really good level all week, and we are really happy to be on the top step of the podium."
Lane added:
"We came into this week desperate for a gold medal. We haven’t won gold here before, so it was a big goal for us this season."
Congratulations to Ben Lane & Sean Vendy and the Badminton England team.
