The Yonex Dutch Open returns this week as one of the highlights on the European Circuit, bringing Europe’s top class badminton to the Maaspoort in ‘s-Hertogenbosch from the 1st to the 5th of October.

A home debut for Flora Wang
One of the stories of this year’s edition is the debut of 16-year-old Dutch talent Flora Wang, who will compete directly in the main draw. The teenager, who has been making a name for herself on the Junior Circuit, is excited about the opportunity to play in front of a home crowd.

“I’m really excited to play in my own country but also a little bit nervous because probably there will be more people watching me than usual,” Flora said.

Balancing both junior and senior competitions has become part of her development. “At the Belgian Junior, I feel more pressure to perform well, but at the Dutch Open it’s about gaining experience, building up points for next year, and slowly adjusting to the senior playing style I’ll need for my future career.”

Direct entry into the main draw has given her a welcome boost. “It makes quite a difference. Mentally it’s more relaxing because you know you’re already in the main draw, and physically you also save energy for the tough matches against higher-level players.”

While not setting specific result targets in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Flora has clear priorities. “I would like to play relaxed, enjoy the experience, and learn as much as possible. The week after, I will be in India for the World Junior Championships, and that’s where I would really like to perform well.”

Big European names
Other than up-and-coming stars like Flora, big European names who we see at the European Championships and the BWF World Tour are also putting their hat in the ring for the YONEX Dutch Open 2025 - including Julien Carraggi, Arnaud Merkle, Magnus Johannesen, Ade Resky Dwicahyo, Leo Rossi/Eloi Adam, Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante, Elsa Jacob/Flavie Vallet, and many more.
