Yesterday, England’s men and Estonia’s women secured their places at the finals of next year’s European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships. Today, two more nations joined them on the road to Istanbul.
The women’s teams of Bulgaria and Czechia have both won their respective groups and thereby secured their tickets to the finals.
Bulgaria were drawn in a group with Ireland, Portugal and Switzerland. After two convincing 5–0 victories against both Ireland and Portugal, Bulgaria faced Switzerland in today’s decisive group final. Following a thrilling and closely contested tie, it was Bulgaria who emerged victorious with a 3–2 win. The individual match results can be found here.
Czechia competed in a group with Slovakia, Slovenia and England. Here too, everything was set for a dramatic group final. Both Czechia and England had won their first two group matches 5–0, setting the stage for a true showdown. The Czech team proved too strong in the women’s singles, winning all three matches, which was enough to secure the overall victory. Even though England later won the women’s doubles, the final result ended 3–2 in favour of Czechia. The individual match results can be found here.
Tomorrow, the remaining groups will be decided, and by the end of Sunday we will know all the nations that will be battling for the title of European Men’s & Women’s Team Champions.
