Christine Busch and Mads Vestergaard were playing the biggest final of their careers together. On the other side of the net stood China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi, who delivered an almost flawless performance, applying constant pressure on the Danish pair throughout the match. The Chinese duo were particularly sharp and aggressive in the service situations.
“We didn’t come out to a very good start. Maybe there were some nerves in the beginning from our side. Our quality today was not good enough to compete with them.”
Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi won the match 21-12 21-17.
Although it did not result in a victory, the Danish pair still take many positives away from the German Open.
“It’s a big experience. It is our first Super 300 final, so of course we gain valuable experience playing these very important matches.”
While the two pairs faced each other in today’s final, they may meet again as soon as Wednesday, when they are set to clash in the first round of the All England.
