Late yesterday, several European players took to the courts for the singles qualification and doubles round of 32 at the YONEX Canada Open 2025.
Fabian Roth qualifies for main draw
Germany’s Fabian Roth was the first to compete and made an impressive start by winning both of his qualification matches. He defeated Joshua Nguyen from Canada and the top seed in men’s singles qualification, Harry Huang, to earn his spot in the main draw. Today, he faces Huang Ping-Hsien from Chinese Taipei in the first round.
Azurmendi already through to round of 16
In women’s singles, Clara Azurmendi of Spain, who was seeded first in qualification, confidently overcame Yevheniia Kantemyr 21-11 21-13 to enter the main draw. She then received a walkover in the round of 32 and is now set for the round of 16, where she will face either fifth seed Line Christophersen from Denmark or Wong Ling Ching from Malaysia.
Doubles pairs move on to round of 16
England’s Rory Easton/Alex Green overcame Germany’s Bjarne Geiss/Jones Ralfy Jansen to reach the round of 16. They will now face the top seeds, the Lee brothers from Chinese Taipei, in a tough upcoming battle.
Denmark’s William Kryger Boe/Christian Faust Kjær secured a solid win and await their opponents for tomorrow’s match in the round of 16.
France’s Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante also progressed after a strong first-round performance. They will now face the eighth-seeded Japanese duo Kaho Osawa/Mai Tanabe.
Plenty of European action on day two
Today’s schedule is packed with action, including several must-watch European encounters:
Rasmus Espersen/Amalie Kudsk from Denmark take on Wu/Lee from Chinese Taipei. After their breakthrough performance last week, all eyes will be on the Danish pair to see if they can maintain their momentum or if fatigue becomes a factor.
Julien Carraggi of Belgium faces arguably the toughest challenge of the day — a first-round clash against top seed and world number 6 Chou Tien Chen, the tournament favourite.
These are just some of the many exciting matches featuring European talent today.
