The quarterfinals at the KFF Singapore Badminton Open delivered thrilling action and crucial moments that could shape the rest of the 2025 season.

Chen Yu Fei stuns An Se Young
One of the day’s biggest shocks came in women’s singles, where Chen Yu Fei ended An Se Young’s incredible unbeaten streak of 2025.
“I was not able to play my game,” said Young in a post-match interview with BWF. The Korean has been unstoppable this year, having won the Malaysia Open, India Open, Orléans Masters, and the All England.

She will be back for more next week for the Super 1000 KAPAL API Indonesia Open 2025

Christo Popov vs Loh Kean Yew
From a European perspective, the most significant and exciting result came from Christo Popov. The young Frenchman delivered an outstanding performance against Singapore's top star, Loh Kean Yew.

In a fast-paced, action-packed match full of spectacular rallies, Popov stunned the home crowd with a dominant 21-10 21-14 victory. As the final point landed, Popov leapt in celebration, fists raised, having secured his place in the Super 750 semifinal. He will next face Lu Guang Zu, who earlier defeated Kodai Naraoka. He is known for his deadly smashes, but how the Frenchman will handle Lu’s aggressive playstyle remains to be seen — all eyes will be on tomorrow’s semifinal.

Toft/Magelund vs Tang/Tse
Going back in time chronologically, the first Europeans on court of the day were Toft/Magelund. They faced second seeds Tang Chun Man/Tse Ying Suet of Hong Kong. The pairs previously met in the Denmark Open quarterfinals last year, where Tang/Tse won in straight games.

This time, the Danes started strong, confidently taking the first game. However, the experienced Hong Kong pair mounted a comeback, claiming the next two games to eliminate Toft/Magelund. Despite the loss, this marks their first quarterfinal appearance on the World Tour since winning the Orléans Masters in March — a sign that the European champions may be regaining form.

Astrup/Rasmussen vs Alfian/Ardianto
Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen played a rollercoaster match against Indonesian stars Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. The Danes started brilliantly, cruising to a surprising 21-3 win in the first game.

But the Indonesians responded with intensity, taking a commanding 19-12 lead in the second. Astrup/Rasmussen clawed their way back to level the score, but Alfian/Ardianto edged ahead to force a decider.

The third game was a battle of wills, with both pairs pushing each other to the limit. The Danes had to fight through four match points before finally sealing the win and letting out a well-earned sigh of relief.
