The YONEX Swiss Open 2026 concluded on Sunday in Basel with Denmark’s Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard finishing as runners-up in men’s doubles, the only Europeans to reach the podium this week.

In the final, the Danish pair lost 21-18 21-13 to Chinese Taipei’s Lee Fang-Chih/Lee Fang-Jen.

Despite a strong run throughout the tournament, the defeat left the Danes disappointed.

“Obviously we are very, very disappointed right now,” Vestergaard said after the match. “I feel like we could have done so much more, but we couldn’t find anything in the second game especially.”

The Lee brothers controlled much of the match with their fast, flat exchanges and strong service pressure, something the Danes struggled to counter.

“They were pretty solid when they were serving and we struggled to have some good returns,” Lundgaard explained. “They are very good in the flat game and we didn’t manage to find the speed ourselves today.”

Lundgaard/Vestergaard had shown steady improvement throughout the week in Basel, reaching their first BWF World Tour Super 300 final together.

“I think we have been playing better and better in every match, except this final,” Lundgaard said.

While the disappointment was clear immediately after the match, the pair acknowledged that the tournament still represents an important step forward.

“Right now the disappointment is huge,” Lundgaard added. “But we played some good matches during the tournament and after all we have to look at that and keep progressing.”

The result marks the pair’s best BWF World Tour finish so far this season.
