A tough week at the Super 100 tournament Indonesia Masters 2025, where several Europeans participated. Among them was a larger Spanish delegation consisting of Clara Azurmendi, Daniel Franco, Rodrigo Sanjurjo, Carlos Piris, Ruben Garcia and Lucia Rodriguez, as well as Mathias Christiansen, Alexandra Bøje, Amalie Schulz and Mads Christophersen from Denmark, Keisha Fatimah Azzahra and Dicky Dwi Pangestu from Azerbaijan, and Matthias Kicklitz and Arnaud Merkle from Germany and France respectively.
Despite the solid European participation, it turned out that only Alexandra Bøje/Mathias Christiansen and Ruben Garcia/Lucia Rodriguez managed to advance beyond the first round. The Spanish pair subsequently lost in the second round, while the Danes went all the way.
Mathias Christiansen and Alexandra Bøje continued their excellent recent form by winning the Super 100 tournament Indonesia Masters 2025. Just two months ago, the Danish duo made their comeback after Mathias’s suspension. And what a way for the two players to return to the World Tour. Even though their current world ranking at number 93 means they cannot yet enter the biggest tournaments on the tour, despite clearly having the level to do so, the pair have still shown through smaller tournaments that they are far from finished.
In their comeback tournament, they won the Super 300 event Macao Open. After that came the World Championships, where they defeated the world number ones Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in the second round, before a third-round exit. Last week followed a narrow second-round loss at the Super 100 Vietnam Open, before the pair yesterday once again found themselves at the top of the podium at the Indonesia Masters.
This week, the pair are back in one of the biggest tournaments as they head into the Super 500 Korea Open. Due to their current ranking, however, they must first fight their way through a qualification round before hopefully once again reaching the main draw.
