Denmark will be strongly represented in the men's doubles semifinals at the Swiss Open after both Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard and Christian Faust Kjær/Rasmus Kjær secured places in the final four on Friday.
Seventh seeds Lundgaard/Vestergaard delivered a composed performance to defeat Malaysia’s Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai 21-19 21-15, continuing their impressive run at the tournament.
“I’m very satisfied with this week,” Lundgaard said after the match. “Today was our best match here in Switzerland. It was a very focused and quality performance from our side.”
The Danish pair felt their sharp start in rallies made the difference.
“I think we were very good in the first five shots of every rally and we managed to continue that through the whole match,” Lundgaard explained.
Their reward is a semifinal clash with Thailand’s Peeratchai Sukphun/Pakkapon Teeraratsakul, who earlier eliminated France’s Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi 21-19 21-12.
“We know they have a very high level and lots of confidence at the moment,” Lundgaard said. “But we have a good feeling here in Switzerland and of course we believe we have a good chance tomorrow.”
While Lundgaard/Vestergaard had to earn their spot on court, compatriots Christian Faust Kjær/Rasmus Kjær advanced without playing after top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty withdrew from their quarterfinal.
In women’s doubles, Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva kept European hopes alive with a hard-fought victory over Chinese Taipei’s Hu Ling Fang/Jheng Yu Chieh 21-13 13-21 21-9 to reach the semifinals.
Elsewhere, Denmark’s Line Christophersen saw her run end in the quarterfinals after a 21-14 21-18 defeat to Thailand’s Supanida Katethong.
