Alexandra Bøje and Mathias Christiansen had a disappointing start to 2026, suffering a narrow first-round defeat last week at the Malaysia Open.
This week, the Danish mixed doubles pair—who have quickly climbed to world number 12—are competing at the India Open Super 750. They received a walkover in the first round, meaning today’s match marked their first appearance on court in New Delhi.
On the opposite side of the net were China’s Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi. The two pairs previously met at the World Championships in Paris, where the Danes, fresh from eliminating world number ones Feng/Huang, were defeated by the young Chinese duo in the following round.
This time, however, Bøje and Christiansen got their revenge, defeating their Chinese opponents 21–17, 21–17 in an entertaining match. In the next round, the Danes will once again face Chinese opposition as they take on the sixth seeds Guo Xin Wa / Chen Fang Hui, who earlier today eliminated Germany’s Marvin Seidel / Thuc Nguyen with a 21–11, 21–12 win.
