Today was a more positive day for Europeans at the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2026. Despite not all securing their spots in the round of 16, there have been many getting important, great wins.
Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov won their first-round matches in both doubles together and in singles. After a great week last week in German Open, the French brothers still have plenty of energy for this Super 1000. In men’s doubles, they got a big win against seventh seeds Gutama/Isfahani.
After Rasmus Espersen/Amalie Cecilie Kudsk’s great win yesterday, Denmark has another mixed doubles pair with an huge result, with Mads Vestergaard/Christine Busch defeating Cheng/Zhang who they just faced last Sunday in the German Open’s finals, and lost to them. Good news for Danish team, since Jesper Toft/Amalie Magelund, one of their best mixed doubles pairs, sadly lost today.
There was also an all-European clash in men’s singles between fifth seed Christo Popov and Rasmus Gemke. Popov won in straight games but it was a hard-fought match, with Gemke pushing throughout.
Tomorrow we start again at 10am local time (GMT+0).
