Tallinn, Estonia will host the European Mixed Team Championships 2027 from 6–10 January 2027. The event marks a historic milestone as the first elite-level European badminton championships ever to be staged in Estonia.
Badminton Estonia has previously demonstrated its organisational capabilities when it hosted the European Junior Championships 2018 — the first time Estonia staged a major European badminton championship. The nation has also built a strong reputation through the successful organisation of the annual Estonian International.
Tournament Director Renna Unt says:
“Badminton Estonia is very grateful to have been entrusted with hosting 2027 European Mixed Team Championships. We look forward to creating a memorable event showcasing the excitement of badminton at its best.
We are delighted to welcome in Tallinn Europe’s top players — many of whom competed here already in 2018 at the European Junior Championships, when Estonia hosted a major European badminton event for the first time.”
Several players who reached the podium at the 2018 European Junior Championships are today among Europe’s leading athletes and key members of their national teams, including Christo Popov, Arnaud Merkle, Line Christophersen, Mads Vestergaard and Thuc Phuong Nguyen.
Commenting on the announcement, BEC President Sven Serre added:
“Securing a host for this Major Event was particularly challenging due to changes in the BWF calendar, which required us to move the 2027 European Mixed Team Championships to the very start of the year. We are therefore especially grateful to Badminton Estonia for their strong interest and commitment to hosting the event.
We have full confidence in Badminton Estonia, based on their excellent delivery of the 2018 European Junior Championships and the consistently high standard of the annual Estonian International tournament.”
The European Mixed Team Championships bring together Europe’s top badminton nations in a team competition featuring both male and female players. The top eight nations in Europe will compete over five days, including three days of group stage matches. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, with the 2027 European Mixed Team Champions set to be crowned on Sunday, 10 January.
