The amount of top-class European players participating in the final tournament of the second European leg of the World Tour, the HYLO Open 2025, is impressive, with many of last year’s champions returning.
Every category is packed with European seeded players, the strongest being the women’s singles category where five European players are seeded — Line Kjærsfeldt, Mia Blichfeldt, Line Christophersen, Julie Dawall Jakobsen, and Kirsty Gilmour.
Mia Blichfeldt, the defending champion, will be one to watch this week. With her excellent recent form — including a win over Chen Yu Fei at the Denmark Open — she enters as one of the heavy favourites.
Another of last year’s winners, Christo Popov, is also competing this year and continues his strong form with multiple semifinal appearances and his first final at a Super 750 tournament. The big question for Popov is whether his physical condition will hold up, as he has previously mentioned feeling the toll of a packed tournament schedule. But considering that he competes in both singles and doubles, we can still expect him to deliver a stellar performance.
Both Viktor Axelsen and Anders Antonsen have announced that they will not play the HYLO Open due to fatigue and physical condition following the recent stretch of tournaments.
Jesper Toft / Amalie Magelund, last year’s mixed doubles champions, will look to replicate their success. Despite a tough run of early exits recently, they will compete alongside Delphine Delrue / Thom Gicquel and Mathias Christiansen / Alexandra Bøje, who have both been in great form, beating top pairs and reaching deep rounds in recent events.
Ben Lane / Sean Vendy, last year’s men’s doubles champions, are seeded seventh in this year’s edition. Having already secured their first Super 500 title at the Arctic Open, the Brits will be confident in continuing their success with another strong showing.
