European Championships Kick Off in Huelva

The opening day of the 2026 European Championships has just wrapped up, setting the stage for an exciting week of badminton. Matches began at 16:00 CET, with a total of 19 matches played across three courts.

The biggest upset of the day came early in the second match on Court 1, where the seventh-seeded Scots, Alexander Dunn and Julie Macpherson, were defeated 22–20 in the third set by Germany’s Simon Krax and Amelie Lehmann. The Scottish pair are currently ranked world number 31, while the young German duo are ranked 69.

Overall, it was a strong day for the German players, who won all four matches they were involved in. Among them was birthday player Miranda Wilson, who delivered an impressive performance to defeat French champion Rosy Pancasari 21–18, 21–8.
