30/06/25 18:00

The European Universities Badminton Championship 2025 took place from 22 to 28 June at the Rey Felipe VI Sports Centre in Madrid, marking an important milestone as the 200th European University Sports Association (EUSA) Championship since the association’s founding.

Badminton has been a part of the EUSA programme since 2004, now one of more than 20 sports featured by the association.

This year’s event brought together thousands of student-athletes competing both in a team and an individual event, proudly representing their universities.

This year’s team title went to France’s Université de Strasbourg, with Poland’s Gdansk University of Technology finishing as runners-up. Vytautas Magnus University from Lithuania and Great Britain’s University of Nottingham shared third and fourth spots.

In the individual event, Université de Strasbourg’s athletes were very successful, with Hoareau/Torres claiming the men’s doubles title and Schaffner/Torres securing gold in mixed doubles. The University of Nottingham won a total of three golds, with the women’s doubles title going to Meng/Tao, while Zhou Meng won the women’s singles crown and Shashwat Dalal men’s singles title.

The medal ceremony of the individual events was attended by Badminton Europe President Sven Serré and BEC Director Mario Carulla Schultz.

The competition once again gave the student-athletes the chance to compete at a top level and enjoy the experience of international university sport.
