We are ready to kick off the penultimate day at this year’s European Championships. After an entertaining and, in many ways, historic Friday, we now know all the medalists, and today it will be decided who takes home which color.
The only confirmed medals so far are the bronze medalists in women’s doubles and mixed doubles. Sara Thygesen, in her final international tournament, takes home a medal alongside her Dutch partner Debora Jille. Additionally, reigning champion Margot Lambert, together with debutant Camille Pognante, also secures a well-deserved bronze.
Today, the finals in women’s doubles and mixed doubles will be played, along with the semifinals in the remaining categories.
Six countries are still represented, with France and Denmark dominating the lineup. But in addition to the French and Danish players, the Stoeva sisters from Bulgaria are in the women’s doubles final with the chance to claim their fifth title. Also chasing gold is Scotland’s Kirsty Gilmour, who already holds five silver medals from the European Championships. A win here in Horsens would be the crowning achievement of her career. In the semifinal, she will face Vivien Sándorházi from Hungary, who yesterday secured the country’s first-ever medal at a European Championships, a historic feat also achieved by Aria Dinata, who gave Croatia its first medal.
Today’s schedule features two matches on Court 2 and six on Court 1, starting at 16:00 (CEST).
