In today’s last semifinal, the favourites from France faced Sweden.
Sweden secured their first-ever medal at a European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships yesterday with their victory over Germany. Today, however, it became clear why the French stars boast titles from the biggest Super Series tournaments, while Sweden currently have no players competing regularly on the World Tour.
The French team needed just three matches to seal a 3–0 victory. It was their three men’s singles stars — Christo Popov, Alex Lanier and Toma Junior Popov — who laid the foundation with three convincing wins.
The man who secured France’s place in the final was Toma Junior Popov. After the match, he was pleased not only with today’s performance, but with the team’s efforts throughout the tournament:
"I am really happy that France now went to the final, without any big problems."
Still, he is particularly looking forward to tomorrow’s final against Denmark:
"we have a strong team, and we are geting stronger and stronger every year, so we hope that this is the one."
Although the line-ups for the final are not yet confirmed, everything points towards a very tight contest between France and Denmark. Toma Popov expects exactly that:
"Pretty much every match is 50/50 chance, and I think everyone is expecting these kinds of matches, so we are going to be ready for it."
Tomorrows finals will be played at 2:30 pm CET+3
