The YONEX Dutch Open 2025 took place last week, featuring a strong line-up of European players and Asian contenders competing in one of the most prestigious tournaments of the European Circuit.

Heading into the final day, five of the finalists were Europeans and five were Asians. Three titles were up for grabs between Europe and Asia, while the men’s singles final was guaranteed to stay in Europe, contested by Gustav Björkler and Arnaud Merkle. The women's singles title was battled between India's Tara Shah and Chinese Taipei's Ching Ping Huang - with Huang winning the match.

The men's singles match turned into a thriller. Björkler surprised the Frenchman by taking the first game 22-20, but Merkle quickly regained control. With his composure and consistency, he won the next two games 21-15 21-15, securing his fourth European Circuit title of the year.

In mixed doubles, Danish duo Kristoffer Kolding/Mette Werge finally broke through after a string of silver medals. They defeated Indonesian pair Bimo Prasetyo/Arlya Nabila Thesya Munggaran to claim their first championship of the year.

France also struck gold in men’s doubles. The 21-year-old pair Mael Cattoen/Lucas Renoir captured their first title of 2025, beating the third-seeded Chiang Chien-Wei/Hsuan Yi Wu of Chinese Taipei in an impressive display of skill and determination. In the end the two young Frenchman was on their knees with hands above their shoulders, in disbelief of the achievment they had just made happen.

Women’s doubles also went France’s way. Newly paired Elsa Jacob/Flavie Vallet had a dream run to the final, where they faced India’s experienced Ashwini Bhat K./Shikha Gautam, winners of last year’s Dutch International. Backed by the crowd and riding strong momentum, Jacob/Vallet delivered a standout performance to take the victory.

With titles in men’s singles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles, France walked away from the Dutch Open with three of the five gold medals, a remarkable statement of strength heading into the next events on the Circuit. Especially so when the two double's victories come from some of their younger pair's who still have many years left to improve and move up the ranks.

European Circuit moves to Instanbul
The European Circuit now moves on to Istanbul, Türkiye for another International Challenge. Many of the winners from the Dutch Open will be competing again, along with several other top European names, including home favourite Neslihan Arin.
