After a week of great performances in Odense, it’s time for another Super 750 tournament – this time, in Rennes. The YONEX French Open 2025 is another opportunity for Europeans to go far. Will any of them reach the finals this weekend?

It wasn’t even two months ago that we were in France for the BWF World Championships, and now we’re back. This time, however, not in the capital but in northwestern France. Glaz Arena in Rennes will be hosting this prestigious tournament, taking place from today until Sunday.

Just like last week, the draw is full of international stars and with plenty of chances to not only win but also collect important ranking points and gain experience from top-level matches.

French players have been strong this year, and this is another opportunity to shine on home soil. Christo Popov, seeded eighth, played beautifully last week at the Denmark Open, reaching the quarterfinals. It could potentially get tough for him again. In the quarterfinals, he could meet his brother Toma Junior Popov or opponents such as Loh Kean Yew and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. The same goes for Alex Lanier. The seventh seed could face opponents as difficult as third seed Kunlavut Vitidsarn if he gets through the first rounds.

Also in the mix are second seed Anders Antonsen and Viktor Axelsen, who is beginning to get great results in his comeback, having just secured a bronze medal last week, with some strong performances. Fellow Dane Mia Blichfeldt also has a tough draw, starting against Beiwen Zhang and possibly facing top seed An Se Young already in the second round. But she has proven she is in good form.

There will also be several exciting all-European clashes in the first round of the women’s singles draw. Line Christophersen will be up against Yvonne Li, Neslihan Arın will face Polina Buhrova, and Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt will play against Kirsty Gilmour. These are matches that could go either way and will be interesting to watch.

Doubles is looking just as promising. Ben Lane/Sean Vendy, who won the title at the Arctic Open less than two weeks ago and followed that with a quarterfinal finish last week, will hope to continue their good momentum. Daniel Lundgaard/Mads Vestergaard face a tough first-round match against the Popov brothers.

There are also chances for Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante after their strong performance in Vantaa, now performing one level higher. Many home fans will also be placing their hopes on fifth seeds Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue as they look for a breakthrough after early exits following their bronze medal at the World Championships.

The road ahead won’t be easy, but the European players have shown they’re up for the challenge these last few weeks.
