Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue are through to their first Super 1000 semifinal since finishing as runners-up at the VICTOR China Open 2023.

The French pair delivered a spectacular performance against Indonesia’s Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil in front of an energetic home crowd. Gicquel impressed with his flair and trick shots, taking charge of the rallies, while Delrue was relentless at the net, moving with precision and executing with power.

They stormed through the opening game 21-11. The second game, however, told a different story. After taking an early lead, the momentum shifted as the Indonesians fed off the energy of the home supporters. Still, the French duo remained composed, never allowing their opponents to pull too far ahead. On their fourth match point, Gicquel/Delrue finally sealed the deal with a narrow 23-21 win, booking their place in the semifinals.

“Semifinal, here we come! Really happy about the performance!” Delrue stated after the match, cementing the pair’s satisfaction with both the result and how they handled the pressure.

There, they will face China’s Cheng Xing/Zhang Chi, currently ranked 11th in the world, just one spot behind the French pair at number 10. The two pairs have never met before, and with a spot in a Super 1000 mixed doubles final on the line, tomorrow promises an exciting showdown.

Elsewhere, Jesper Toft/Amalie Magelund took on Malaysia’s Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei in another thrilling mixed doubles match. Despite a strong start, the Danes were defeated 21-17 16-21 14-21 by the legendary Malaysian duo. Chen/Toh will now face Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Supissara Paewsampran in the other semifinal tomorrow.
