Yesterday, April 9th, during the European Championships, elections were held for Badminton Europe’s Athletes’ Commission. The commission consists of three representatives for the Badminton Commission member positions and one Para-Badminton Commission Member.
Only active European badminton players and active European para-badminton players were eligible to vote. Players were able to vote digitally up until April 6th, and there was also the option to vote in person on April 9th at the European Championships.
We are pleased to present the four newly elected members of Badminton Europe’s Athletes’ Commission.
For the Para-Badminton Commission Member, para-badminton player Krysten Coombs has been elected.
Krysten Coombs is a double European Champion, a former World Champion, and a proud holder of two Olympic medals.
For the remaining positions, the following players have been elected:
Samuel Jones – England
Selena Piek – Netherlands
Stefani Stoeva – Bulgaria
The four members will sit as commision members for the period of 4 years.
As part of their work on the Athletes’ Commission, their responsibilities include:
- Representing the interests of active badminton and para-badminton players.
- Providing feedback on rules, regulations, and policies affecting athletes.
- Ensuring fair treatment and equal opportunities for all players.
- Attending meetings and engaging with the BEC Board of Directors and other governing bodies.
- Assisting in the promotion and growth of badminton in Europe.
The commission serves as the athletes’ voice to the Badminton Europe Confederation, ensuring that players are heard at the highest levels of decision-making.
We are truly pleased to welcome the four new members, and we look forward to working together to create the best possible environment for our European athletes.
