Bulgaria have made history by defeating seven-time champions Denmark to win the title at the 2026 European Women’s Team Championships.
The final was decided in four matches. Kaloyana Nalbantova gave the advantage early, turning the clash around after losing the first game to reigning European champion Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt. The young Bulgarian player fought back to win 8-21, 22-20, 21-16 and give her team the right start.
Stefani Stoeva then earn Bulgaria their second win in the second singles match. Stoeva stayed sharp in the key moments against Mia Blichfeldt and secured a 22-20 21-13 win to put Bulgaria 2-0 up in the lead.
Line Christophersen kept Denmark’s hopes alive in the third match. She secured a convincing 21-9 21-14 win against Gergana Pavlova, making it 1-2 for her team.
In the women’s doubles, Gabriela Stoeva/Stefani Stoeva defeated Amalie Cecilie Kudsk/Amalie Schulz to seal the win, giving Bulgaria their first-ever European Women’s Team Championship title.
This is a historic result for Bulgaria, who have previously won silver in 2016 and bronze in 2014, but now stand as the champions of European women’s team badminton.
