The European Championships have been held since 1968, and the 2025 edition marks the 31st time the tournament is taking place. In the 30 previous editions, Hungary had never claimed an individual medal — until now.
Vivien Sándorházi has just defeated Spain’s Clara Azurmendi 21-11, 19-21, 21-13, securing her spot in the semifinals. There, she will face either Yvonne Li or Kirsty Gilmour.
After the match, an emotional and overjoyed Vivien Sándorházi spoke to us:
“I kept focusing on, don’t think about the medal, don’t think about the medal, but I could not stop thinking about it. I am so happy — it was one of the main goals in my career.”
“It is our (Hungary’s) first ever medal in the senior Europeans, and I am very glad that it is mine in this historical event.”
A huge congratulations to Sándorházi and the Hungarian Badminton Association
