In a stunning and well played final, Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund have just claimed their first European gold medal and the very first of this year’s tournament. Facing world number seven and reigning European champions Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue, the Danes showed no fear.

Both pairs had looked dominant throughout the event, but it was Toft and Magelund who completed the run without dropping a single set. The final score was 21 18 21 19, and it almost went to a deciding game as the French pair closed the gap from 18 10 in the second set.

We caught up with the gold medalists after the match, and they were understandably thrilled.
Jesper said “Crazy atmosphere, crazy experience, so grateful
Amalie added “It is really nice to stand with the gold instead of the bronze from last year. I am so proud of us for keeping this level all week

A huge congratulations to Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund on this fantastic achievement

Later today we will find out if Denmark can double the gold count or if the Stoeva sisters will spoil the party as they face Maiken Fruergaard and Natasja P Anthonisen in the final which will also mark Maiken’s last international match.
