Denmark’s Julie Dawall Jakobsen has announced the end of her international badminton career after 13 years at Badminton Denmark’s National Elite Training Centre.
the 27-year-old played her final international tournament at the German Open 2026 last week. “There have been long and careful considerations, but I have lost the motivation and joy of chasing the next goals,” Jakobsen said.
“I have always had a spark to become as good as possible and to qualify for the biggest tournaments and championships. That spark has simply faded. But many dreams have come true, and competing at the biggest events in the world is something I will look back on with pride. Playing for Denmark and wearing the Danish colours has meant something very special.”
Jakobsen will continue playing domestically for Værløse Badmintonklub.
During her career, she won several international tournaments and collected ten European Championship medals with Denmark, as well as two individual bronze medals in women’s singles.
Badminton Denmark’s Head of Elite and Sport, Jens Meibom, said: “It is of course sad that Julie is ending her career, but I fully understand her decision. She has had a long and fine career, and we would like to thank her for the effort she has given to Danish badminton.”
Jakobsen reached a career-high world ranking of 28 in March last year.
