Ben Lane/Sean Vendy are through to the finals at the CLASH OF CLANS Arctic Open 2025 powered by YONEX. This is their best result so far this year on the tour.
The English pair faced Malaysia’s Choong Hon Jian/Muhammad Haikal in today’s semifinals. Currently ranked 15 in the world, the English duo went in as favourites and it showed in the first game with a confident performance. But the second game was a different story. The Malaysians fought back, took the lead for parts of it, and pushed it all the way to 20-20. From there, it was a close battle, but Lane and Vendy held their nerve to secure the win and book their spot in the final.
“I think we got off to a really good start,” said Vendy. “We started off just playing our style and wanted to impose our game on the court,” added Lane. Both players agreed their opponents are dangerous in attack and that they had to adapt their game.
In regard to tomorrow, Lane said: “We have one more day here, so just go back, do what we have been doing throughout the whole week, get some good food and recovery.”
A long stretch of tournaments has just begun and staying sharp is key. “It’s not just about preparing for this tournament. We have to be in the best shape we can for four weeks in a row,” said Vendy. “This week luckily, we’ve gone quite deep into the tournament, which is what we want to do going forward, so we need to be in really good shape and just train hard.”
Tomorrow, they’ll face another Malaysian pair, top seeds Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik.
