Mads Vestergaard and Christine Busch have just booked their place in the final of the YONEX German Open. It is the first time the pair has reached a final at a Super 300 tournament or higher, making it a significant milestone in the young Danish duo’s careers.

In the semifinals, they faced Hee/Widjaja from Singapore and Indonesia respectively. Although this is only the pair’s third tournament together, they have already shown impressive form. Earlier this week, they defeated Mathias Christiansen/Alexandre Bøje as well as Malaysia’s Goh/Lai.

However, today the Danes proved too strong for the newly formed combination, securing a straight-games victory, 21–19, 21–16.

In the final, the Danes will face China’s Cheng/Zhang. The two pairs have met once before, at the China Open 2024, where the Chinese pair emerged victorious in three games.

It will require a top-level performance from the Danes if they are to take the title. Mads Vestergaard: “If we want to have a chance tomorrow against the Chinese pair, we really need to be sharp again, especially in the service situations. I think today we had some nervous mistakes in the beginning. I don’t think there will be any room for those mistakes tomorrow.”

Later today, three more matches with European participation are scheduled, as both Popov brothers compete in the men’s singles semifinals, along with surprise doubles Julien Maio and William Villeger.
