The Danish mixed doubles pair has just booked their place in the semifinals of the India Open Super 750.
Yesterday, they claimed an impressive victory over China’s fourth-highest-ranked mixed doubles pair, Cheng Xing / Zhang Chi. Today, they faced China’s third-highest-ranked mixed doubles pair, the sixth seeds Guo Xin Wa / Chen Fang Hui. After a three-game victory for the Danes, they will now take on China’s second-highest-ranked pair—and world number two—Zheng Bang Jiang / Wei Ya Xin in tomorrow’s semifinal.
Today’s match was a fluctuating affair played in a hall with difficult conditions. The Danes took control of the opening game, winning it convincingly 21–13. The second game was equally dominant—but this time in favor of the Chinese pair, who won 21–14—forcing a deciding third game.
The final game was closely contested up to 10–10, before the Danes went into the interval with an 11–10 lead, now playing on the side of the court that had caused both pairs significant trouble. Christiansen and Bøje handled the challenge superbly, winning 10 of the next 11 rallies to seal the decider 21–11 and secure their place in Saturday’s semifinals.
