BWF has invited Continental Confederations to test their new scoring system which was approved in late 2024 for Grade 3 tournaments. It could possibly become the new scoring system across all of badminton.

The Czech International Future Series 2025 starts tomorrow and takes place in České Budějovice.

It features solid players from the European Circuit such as France’s Valentin Singer in men’s singles and the Czech Republic’s own Petra Maixnerová in women’s singles.

However, one of the reasons this event has been in the crosshairs of many badminton fans and observers is that it will be the first time BWF’s new 3x15 scoring system is tested out in Europe. The new scoring system was already tested at two Panam tournaments, namely the “V Mexican International Challenge 2025” (7th–11th of May 2025), and the “Venezuela Future Series 2025” (10th–14th of June 2025). But this will be the first time that Europeans get to try the new system.

The vision for the new scoring system is to create “more exciting points, including more ‘close’ matches.” With shorter matches and more energy, the athletes will be able to deliver more excitement for the fans. And with fewer points in each game, each point will now be more important than ever.

It will also help get more exciting points sooner compared to the 3x21 scoring system, as well as ensure that players’ health is respected with shorter matches.

The BWF is conducting a testing period with every Continental Federation employing the scoring system in selected Grade 3 tournaments. Each host will collect data, and everyone involved in the event will conduct surveys so the outcome of the new scoring system can be evaluated.

A final decision will be made regarding the scoring system at the BWF Annual General Meeting in 2026.

Not only will we have a lot of good badminton to look forward to, but also a brand new scoring system!
