Badminton Denmark has announced changes to its mixed doubles setup following the news of Amalie Magelund’s pregnancy, with new partnerships already set to take effect.
Jesper Toft will now team up with Christine Busch, marking the end of her previous partnership with Mads Vestergaard. The new duo is expected to enter tournaments immediately, aiming to build momentum as quickly as possible.
For Vestergaard, the change means a full commitment to men’s doubles alongside Daniel Lundgaard. The pair, currently ranked world number 18, will now focus entirely on their progression in one category as they push towards the top 10.
At the same time, Andreas Søndergaard has decided to step away from his international career. He will, however, remain part of the training environment at the National Training Centre in Brøndby.
The upcoming European Championships will also mark a special moment for Danish badminton. It will be the last opportunity to see defending champions Toft/Magelund in action together before Magelund begins her maternity leave.
The pair will enter the tournament in Huelva as reigning champions, looking to defend their title and close this chapter of their partnership on a high note. Despite the upcoming break for Magelund, her long-term goal remains to return to international competition.
With new constellations forming and a title defence on the line, the European Championships promise the mosts exciting matches and storylines the sport has to offer. And you can watch it all on badmintoneurope.tv
