Quarterfinal Action Kicks Off in Women’s and Mixed Doubles
10/04/25 10:33

Day 3 of the 2025 European Championships is about to begin, and we have plenty of exciting matches on the schedule.
Today, the women’s doubles and mixed doubles quarterfinals will be played, while the men’s doubles and both singles categories will see Round of 16 action.
That means we’ll soon know the first medalists of this year’s European Championships.

This article will therefore put extra focus on the women’s doubles and mixed doubles matches.

And already in today’s very first match on court 3, we’re in for a thrilling mixed doubles clash as the 4th seeds Alexander Dunn/Julie Macpherson take on France’s Julien Maio/Lea Palermo. Alexander Dunn holds a silver medal in men’s doubles from the 2022 European Championships with his partner Adam Hall. But none of the four players in today’s encounter have yet won a medal at the European Championships—something that’s about to change in just a few hours.

The reigning mixed doubles champions Thom Gicquel/Delphine Delrue face off against last month’s German Open winners Robin Tabeling/Alexandra Bøje. Bøje, who is playing in her hometown Horsens, can expect some extra support from the home crowd.

Another Danish player competing close to her hometown is Sara Thygesen, who is playing her final international tournament. Yesterday, she and her Dutch partner Debora Jille knocked out Danish duo Cecilie Amalie Kudsk/Signe Schulz. Today, they face more Danish opposition in Julie Finne-Ipsen/Mai Surrow.
Sara Thygesen has already won four women’s doubles bronze medals at previous European Championships, and with a win today, she is guaranteed at least one more—perhaps even in a more prestigious colour.

Yesterday, Margot Lambert/Camille Pognante battled through a marathon match to defeat Turkey’s Bengisu Ercetin/Nazlican Inci 10-21, 21-18, 21-19. Today, they’ll go up against the young 2nd-seeded Ukrainians Polina Buhrova/Yevheniia Kantemyr in one of the final matches of the day.

One player who knows what it takes to win gold in women’s doubles is four-time champion Stefani Stoeva. Today, she’s set to play both a women’s doubles quarterfinal with her sister Gabriella, and a Round of 16 women’s singles match against the 5th seed Line Christophersen.
