Rasmus Gemke has just claimed an impressive victory over former All England champion and Olympic bronze medallist Lee Zii Jia in the first round of the India Open Super 750.
Lee Zii Jia, a player known for possessing one of the highest peak levels in men’s singles when everything clicks, has struggled for some time to rediscover his best form. These difficulties have seen him drop to world number 144. Today he faced Rasmus Gemke, a familiar opponent. Prior to today, the two had met four times, all of which ended in victories for Gemke.
Today proved no different, although it required a hard-fought battle lasting 1 hour and 2 minutes to determine the winner. Gemke got the victory with a 21–13 18–21 21–18 win and advances to the second round.
In the next round, Rasmus Gemke will face Chi Yu Jen, who earlier today eliminated Alex Lanier in the first round.
