The Scottish Open 2025 finished yesterday with a huge win for home favourite Kirsty Gilmour, who claimed her third title in the event, while France’s Arnaud Merkle is extending his fantastic run by securing his fifth consecutive International Challenge win.

Gilmour delivered for the Glasgow crowd in a hard-fought final against Joo Eun Kim. “I didn't really set this expectation for this week. I’m just delighted to be on top of the podium,” she said to Badminton Scotland.

The top seed had to regroup after losing the second game. “I would have hoped to seal it off in two sets but she played very well. I’m just super happy that I knuckled down and got back onto the right disciplined way to play.”

The home support gave her an extra push. “It’s just that extra little wave of positivity behind you. It snaps you back into this moment right now. I want to play my absolute best for everyone watching. I’m super happy to get the win in front of our home crowd. It’s always a bit special.”

In men’s singles, Merkle continues to deliver great performances on the international stage. Currently ranked 36 in the world, the Frenchman won yet another title this weekend, adding to what has already been an outstanding season.
