Second Round Success: Thygesen’s Farewell Run Continues
09/04/25 11:40

Day two of the 2025 European Championships is officially underway, and the first players have already secured their spots in the third round. Among them are Sara Thygesen and Debora Jille, a pair who have only played together for about six months, following the split between Thygesen and Maiken Fruergaard.

Today, they faced the 7th-seeded Danish pair Amalie Cecilie Kudsk and Signe Schulz, who are playing their first European Championships together. There was a beautiful symbolism to the match, while Kudsk and Schulz are just beginning their European Championship journey, this marks Sara Thygesen’s last. The 2025 European Championships will be her final international tournament.

But today was not the day we said goodbye to one of Europe’s top doubles players from the past decade, Thygesen and her Dutch partner claimed the victory 21-18, 20-22, 21-9 in a match that swung back and forth before they found their rhythm and control in the third game.

Tomorrow, they will face either the 4th-seeded Julie Finne-Ipsen and Mai Surrow or the Polish duo Paulina Kankiewicz and Kornelia Marczak, who are scheduled to meet in match 8 on court 1.
