It was a solid first day for some of the European players at the SUWON VICTOR Korea Open 2025, with qualification rounds and the first of the main draw matches taking place today.

Mathias Christiansen/Alexandra Bøje, the top seeds in qualification, are steadily climbing their way back up the world rankings. From 194 at the end of August to 104 at the start of September, and now up to 69, the Danish pair continue their successful comeback run. With two titles already since returning, their good results continued today with a solid win against Korea’s Kim Jae Hyeon/Jang Eun Seo, 21-16 21-19. In the main draw’s first round, they’ll face another Korean duo, Sang Won Lee/Kim Min Ji.

In men’s singles, both Magnus Johannesen and Mads Christophersen needed two wins to reach the main draw. After winning the opening matches, the Danes ended up facing each other in the final qualification round. Johannesen won the clash to secure his place in the main draw, 21-18 21-17. Tomorrow he faces Chou Tien Chen who is seeded third in the tournament, it is the first time they face each other, and it will be an exciting matchup to watch tomorrow.

Czechia’s Jiří Král/Ondřej Král also made it through the qualification rounds with a solid 21-15 21-14 win against English-Australian pair Yue Hang Wang/Zewei Xie.

But not all results went Europe's way. Yevheniia Kantemyr fought through three games but missed a spot in the main draw. She and Polina Buhrova also lost their opening match in women’s doubles. Buhrova, however, will have another chance tomorrow in women’s singles against sixth seed Supanida Katethong, Thailand.

The main draw continues tomorrow with a full day of matches, with many Europeans. You can see the full order of play here.
