Following last week’s excitement at the TOYOTA Thailand Open 2025, badminton fans can look forward to another thrilling week of top-level competition. With a fresh batch of players entering the mix, the PERODUA Malaysia Masters promises to deliver more action-packed matches — and a strong European presence.

As the buzz settles from the inspiring performance by Boe/Kjær, who made an impressive run to the final, and Anders Antonsen’s hard-fought battle against World Champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn, we now shift our focus to this week's tournament, where Europe continues to compete at the highest level.

Boe/Kjær will be back on court — this time starting in the qualification rounds, a reminder of just how remarkable their near-title win in Thailand truly was. Antonsen, who is seeded number one in Malaysia, will also be looking to build on his recent momentum. This marks his second tournament with Danish legend Jan Ø. Jørgensen in his coaching corner.

Another exciting highlight is the return of the Popov brothers, playing their first international tournament since becoming European champions in men’s doubles. Both Christo and Toma will also compete in singles, with a potential second-round clash between Christo and Antonsen on the cards — only the second time the two would face each other. Toma Popov, meanwhile, faces a challenging opener against Japan’s Kodai Naraoka. Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen is also competing, coming in with confidence after defeating Lakshya Sen last week.

In women’s singles, Denmark is represented by both Line Christophersen and Line Kjærsfeldt. They are both facing opponents who will have played in the qualification rounds — and it could play in their advantage, as they'd be lower-ranked and might lack their full energy after playing an extra round.

Mixed doubles also features European firepower with three strong pairs in the draw. Fifth-seeded Jesper Toft and Amalie Magelund return to international competition outside the Sudirman Cup for the first time, while Italy’s Palermo/Maio and Denmark’s Vestergaard/Busch round out the European contingent.

In men’s doubles, Europe is represented in force. World number one pair Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen lead the charge. They are joined by the Popov brothers, Boe/Kjær, seventh seeds Kjær/Søgaard, Lundgaard/Vestergaard, and European silver medallists Eloi Adam/Leo Rossi of France.

With such strong representation across multiple categories, European badminton fans have plenty to be excited about at this year’s Malaysia Masters.
