The TotalEnergies BWF Sudirman Cup Finals 2025 kicked off yesterday with a tough start overall for the European teams, but Denmark got off to a strong opening win.

After the celebrations that preceeded the competition’s start, with all participating teams enjoying a welcome dinner and opening ceremony, it was time to get serious, with the first European team to compete being Czechia, taking on Korea in the morning session.

Although Czechia fell to the 2023 runners-up, they avoided a clean sweep, thanks to Jan Louda securing the win in the men’s singles match against Cho Geonyeop, 21-16 21-16.

The evening session saw both Denmark and England in action. England faced a strong Indonesian side and fell 5-0, though there was a good moment for the team when Callum Hemming/Estelle Van Leeuwen pushed Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari to three games in the final match.

Denmark, however, kicked off their campaign with a strong performance against India, winning 4-1. They nearly secured a clean sweep, but Tanisha Crasto/Shruti Mishra claimed the women’s doubles for India, preventing a full Danish win.

It was a good first day for Denmark, including a birthday victory for Anders Antonsen over Prannoy H. S., winning 21-15 21-16. "I never lose on my birthday," Antonsen said after his match. Another great performance came from the recently crowned European Champion Line Højmark Kjærsfeldt, who defeated Pusarla V. Sindhu for the first time in six encounters. “It’s nice to finally beat her. I’m happy with my comeback in the second game.”
