For the first time in the tournament’s history, Sweden have won a medal at the European Men’s & Women’s Team Championships. They delivered a major upset by defeating Germany 3–2 in the deciting tie for a place in the semifinals. Sweden who previusly have been a huge badminton nation, have not had a result like
A delighted Gabriel Uldahl spoke to us after the match:
“These young guys on the team bring and give so much energy,” he said.
“I knew we had a chance today, and I felt good on court. Today it was very much about not making too many mistakes — and fortunately, I didn’t.”
Joining Sweden from Group 2 in the semifinals are France, who secured a big 5–0 victory over Türkiye today.
In Group 1, Denmark had already secured their semifinal spot before today’s matches. However, that did not slow the Danish team down. With Anders Antonsen back in the line-up, Denmark claimed a confident 5–0 win over Spain.
In the final tie of the group, England faced Finland, with both nations still holding a mathematical chance of reaching the semifinals. The contest went all the way to the fifth and decisive match to determine the winner.
It was England who edged it 3–2.
